Drake- ‘If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late’
Drake caught the music industry by surprise when he released his latest project ‘If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late’ with no promotion or singles. There were rumblings of Drake dropping a mixtape as a precursor to his upcoming studio album ‘Views From The 6’. However, with the offering being sold through outlets such as iTunes and Google Play, many question its mixtape label. Whether you choose to label it a mixtape or album; one thing you can’t label it is a failure. ‘If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late’ is projected to reach gold status in its first week. The project consists of 17 tracks that many are speculating are throwaways from his upcoming ‘Views From The 6’ studio album. There have been mixed reviews on the net in terms of the quality of the music. Obviously, the internet is not a good representation of how the masses feel especially taking into account the projected numbers. After sitting with the album/mixtape for the last few days I can’t deny that even if these are throwaway tracks it is a solid project. Songs such as “Legend”, “Know Yourself”, “You & The 6”, “6PM In New York” and “No Telling” which is my personal favorite has me anticipating ‘Views From The 6′ even more. Many fans and critics are aware of the internal problems that have been made public over at Cash Money/Young Money. With Drake’s mentor Lil’ Wayne beefing with his self-proclaimed “Daddy” and owner of Cash Money Records Baby over the release of his Carter V project, many wonder if this unexpected release is Drake’s way of fulfilling his contractual obligations with his label. No matter the motive, Aubrey has further solidified himself as a force to be reckoned with. ‘If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late’ available now through iTunes and the Google Play Store.
