The Dream’s Nightmare ’94

The Dream’s Nightmare ’94

The year was 1994. It was game four of a series that featured the Phoenix Suns and Houston Rockets. Kevin Johnson, Phoenix’s point guard at the time completed a remarkable play, driving the baseline pass Kenny Smith and dunking over 7’0” Rockets center Hakeem Olajuwon. The dunk over the All-Star center became a highlight for the ages and was part of a second consecutive 38-point, 12-assist outing by the point guard. KJ achieved this unexpected, yet remarkable play in the Converse Run ‘N Slam with React Juice. Johnson along with another Johnson by the name of Larry were two of Converse’s premier athletes at the time. Hakeem and the Rockets went on to win the series against the Suns and the title that year against Patrick Ewing and the Eastern Conference Champion New York Knicks.
